About Me

I live and work in beautiful Northern Michigan.
Journalism
I spent the first half of my career as a journalist, working for weekly papers and then for major metro dailies, including The Detroit News. I later became managing editor at the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, where I led coverage of major events, including the 2000 Camp David peace talks.
After JTA, I moved into science, technology, and business journalism. I helped launch a magazine dedicated to nanotechnology and wrote for outlets such as Wired and Salon. I then entered book publishing as executive editor at Foreword Reviews, a book-review publication focused on independent presses.
Editing
For almost a decade, I have worked full time as a book editor, helping authors shape fiction and nonfiction manuscripts. Editing is a central part of my career, along with my work in journalism, podcasting, and Jewish commentary.
Jewish Commentary
My interest in Jewish issues goes back to childhood. I grew up hearing firsthand stories from Holocaust survivor relatives, which influenced how I see the world and played a role in why I became a writer. Jewish life, identity, and antisemitism have been part of my work ever since.
My commentary has appeared in The Jerusalem Post, JTA, The Algemeiner,Publishers Weekly, and other Jewish and mainstream outlets. I also serve as nonfiction editor for Judith Magazine, which amplifies Jewish writers whose voices are often sidelined in today’s literary world.
I publish the Substack newsletter Emet-Truth, where I write commentary, conduct interviews, and keep a diary-style record of Jewish life and rising antisemitism. Much of what I write there serves as a first draft of my next book on practical ways to confront antisemitism.
Podcasting
I host and produce podcasts for the Alliance of Independent Authors. In these interviews, I talk with independent writers about their work, their backgrounds, and the paths they took to publishing.
Books
I am the author of Found and Lost: The Jake and Cait Story, a novel about music, aging, regret, faith, and second chances.
I am also writing a memoir that combines my family history, my personal and professional life, and firsthand reporting on the fight against antisemitism.
